A children's magazine with a difference, 'Karuna' was launched by 'Gurumahima', the organization for girls and young women in the Ashram, in 2002. The magazine is brought out annually and the entire editorial, production and other work for it is done by the young members of 'Gurumahima'. In fact, the first two issues of the magazine were handwritten. The magazine is distributed in a few schools in Kerala.
Though intended to make children and young adults conscious about serious issues relating to spiritual truths and knowledge, the magazine adopts a light approach in tackling these weighty subjects. Topics of contemporary interest are picked up and written about in a thought-provoking way. Interesting nuggets of information from diverse areas, ranging from science, history, society to the lives of great people, are included.
A special feature of the magazine is the cover page, which carries the picture of a lamp in an artistic composition in each issue. The lamp is symbolic of the girls being the light of the home and the world. A special message given by Guru for 'Gurumahima' is also carried in each issue. The message, translated in English, reads as:
"Woman radiates auspiciousness.
She should become the Symbol of Truth
That exists as motherhood in the subtle and temporal (planes)
As the Grace of God
As the First Guru
Who guides to the Guru
The Lord of One's Soul."
