Gurucharanam Saranam

Sugham Tharum Pudava

Sukhamtarum Pudava was started as a small tailoring unit in the Ashram premises in the early 1990s to execute stitching works for the Ashram inmates.

Clothes are a basic requirement of human beings. Guru preferred simplicity in clothes while emphasising the need for people to look elegant and unostentatious. As exemplified by its name (which translates to 'comfort giving clothes'), it is the endeavour of Sukhamtarum Pudava to provide comfortable and well stitched clothes at a reasonable price.

The stitching unit shifted from the Ashram to separate premises in the Sidhha Hospital Complex in 1999.

Sukhamtarum Pudava has now branched out to several centres in different districts of Kerala including Kollam, Kozhikode, Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram. There are three centres under this unit in Thiruvananthapuram, including one in the city.

Apart from stitching clothes for the Ashram inmates, these centres undertake outside works also.

There are separate tailoring units for men and women.

Besides stitching, the units execute beautiful embroidery and fabric painting works. The centre at Thiruvananthapuram specialises in stitching fancy men's shirts.

The Kozhikode unit, which is the largest of the Sukhamtarum Pudava centres, with a staff of nearly 30 people, undertakes the production of readymade garments also in a limited manner. The other centres have about 10 staff members each.

The Sukhamtarum Pudava centres also teach tailoring. Thus, this unit helps in the economic empowerment of women, teaching them a basic skill and providing an opportunity to make productive use of it.
